\n\nNothing special overall but I really liked the look of Jerz\u2019 Penny design and build of his Penny walking bot. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nI had already built a three servo walker with my \u201cWhite Legged Spider \nMonkey\u201d but really liked how his walker looked and having just gotten my\n 3D printer working for the most part at the time figured it was worth a\n print and build. I wanted to mix up the colors a bit and printed the \nbody and connecting rods in black and the legs in white. Yeah, I know, I\n already have another \u201cWhite Legged Spider\u201d kind of thing but B&W \nlooks nice. \n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nAfter I had her printed out I happened to comment in the SB that I \nneeded to get hardware and Jerz himself said don\u2019t worry about it and \nbefore long I had received all the screws, nuts, parts, and even a \nProMini for my ProtoPenny. Very cool indeed.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nBody wise this is the same a Penny. I did use a different head and \nmounted up two US sensors, one on a panning servo and one on a top plate\n and angled slightly up to potentially pickup things the lower sensor \ncan\u2019t see. I slapped a battery box on it\u2019s belly, a couple LEDs behind \nthe lower sensor, round speaker on it\u2019s butt and called it good. Since I\n already had ProMini stuff, I used one of those like Jerz sent but it \nwas a bit of a tight fit. My normal homemade undershield would not fit \nso I just soldered up pins to the ProMini and then made a couple of \nround power distribution boards mounted behind the heads using some \nsmall circular perf boards.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\nThe bot doesn\u2019t really do a whole lot but there\u2019s plenty of brains there\n to do more. On power up it does a quick back and forth scan and then \nstarts out in \u201cnervous\u201d mode. Just thought that seemed kind of cool like\n it\u2019s afraid of the world. If something moves into site it will back up,\n otherwise it will start walking after a few seconds making some high \npitched sounds based on the distance it sees. After a random time it \nwill revert to nervous mode again and shiver a little while before \nproceeding to wander again.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nJust a fun little build\u2026 Named it Farthing since it\u2019s less than Penny but still worth something\u2026 I think anyhow.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
